Keeping track of the team and their performance can be an arduous task. There are statistics to follow, plays to plan and it is fairly easy to lose track of the recent changes. If only there were an easier way of storing all of the necessary info in one easy-to-access place. Well, there is. Your phone has some wonderful apps every coach should consider and it can do more than just give you a review of Heart Bingo (which, incidentally, has an app of its own). Let’s dive in.
Hudl Technique
Have you ever been in a position where you had to explain to your players what it is they are doing and what to improve on, and they have trouble understanding you? Hudl Technique allows you to record their performance to up to 240 fps, provided, of course, your device can handle it. After that it is simply a matter of analyzing the video, playing it in slo-mo and comparing it to other videos side by side. You can even do voice-overs on the videos, allowing coaching sessions to turn into easy-to-follow video lessons.
There is more to this app than pure video editing, however. You can manage your team, share tips and techniques from other coaches, and even look up what other users are up to. If you want to improve your team’s performance, as well as get feedback from a community that knows the ropes, this is the app for you.
Coach’s Eye
Another app that relies on analyzing the videos of athlete’s performing, Coach’s Eye is developed by TechSmith Corporation and it comes in two versions – free and VIP. The free version allows you to share your videos that take up to 2GB of data. You can also use it on up to five devices, upload unlisted videos, and purchase premium tool-packs. The downside is that there are ads, but if you go with the VIP option, not only are you ad-free, the videos you share can be recorded and uploaded in HD with 150 GB of storage space.
GameChanger Baseball & Softball Scorekeeper
This one is a little bit specialized, but it is still a great app. The Scorekeeper allows you to keep scores, review the team stats in-play and for the season, as well as message your team members and schedule practice. The app is free and it allows friends and family members to follow the action regardless of where they are. The same development team has also come up with the GameChanger Team Manager, which makes managing a team incredibly easy. Sadly, their second app has hit a few bumps in the road, but we are sure the latest updates will straighten everything out.
